Austen Onyett, head data strategist for Aspirent is a senior data and thought leader with more than 19 years of varied business, finance, and IT experience. Austen has worked in large transactional data environments for retail, telecom, and hospitality companies saving hundreds of millions of dollars through his strategic vision, careful planning and mastery in implementation tactics.
Austen knows what truly are “best practices” for data –and it’s not mastering the latest shiny data tool of the week. It’s how well you connect with the heart-beating people you’re trying to help, and communicate your understanding back to them, all the while driving business value.
Austen most recently owned enterprise customer data, MDM, and global data quality platforms for IHG before moving into an external consulting role. He also founded the Customer Data Governance Team for IHG and headed up enterprise metadata initiatives. Recently, as part of data management efforts for his clients, he has been driving GDPR awareness as well as China and California Data Law (CCPA) compliance initiatives for businesses.
Austen is a Governing Body Member of the Evanta Atlanta CDO Executive Summit, Evanta Atlanta CIO Executive Summit, Syncsort Consumer Advisory Board member, and member of the Argyle CIO Leadership Forum of Atlanta.
In addition to his extensive commercial business and IT data management background, Austen runs his own home cloud and media server, as a hobby, on a platform he built in his basement with over 72TB of storage. A true data nerd.
Austen holds a Technical Degree in Paramedicine/Emergency Medicine with Seminole State College and is a veteran of the USAF.
